היום לפני 9 שנים (25.12.2006) - הלך לעולמו ג'יימס בראון.
בראון היה בעל השפעה בהתפתחות הגוספל והרית'ם אנד בלוז למוזיקת נשמה ונחשב לממציא מוזיקת הפאנק.
בראון החל את קריירת המוזיקה המקצועית שלו בשנת 1953. תהילתו הייתה בשיאה בסוף שנות החמישים ותחילת שנות השישים כאשר בשנת 1964 כתב את השיר הראשון המיוחס לז'אנר הפאנק. למרות מספר בעיות אישיות ומכשולים שונים, הוא המשיך ליצור להיטים עד סוף שנות השמונים. בשנות השישים והשבעים היה בראון מעורב בפרשות פוליטיות אמריקאיות, בעיקר כתוצאה מפעילותו בשמם של האפרו-אמריקנים, בהקשר זה נכתב השיר "Say It Loud — I'm Black and I'm Proud".
בשנת 1992 זכה בראון בפרס הגראמי עבור מפעל חיים.
לאחר מותו הובאה אחר כבוד גופתו בכרכרה רתומה לסוסים למועדון "אפולו" בניו יורק שם הופיע לראשונה בשנת 1956.
