זה אולי נשמע מוזר, אבל "Eternal Flame" היא אחת הבלדות הבודדות שמדברת על אהבה, ללא סייגים וללא קשיים. אין כאן שום סיפור מסגרת של בגידה, או אהבה אסורה, אלא רק טוהר שנמשך מתחילתה ועד סופה. בבית הראשון אמנם קיים היסוס מסוים כשסוזאנה הופס, הסולנית, שואלת את מושא השיר "האם אתה מרגיש אותו דבר?", אבל הלהבה הנצחית עליה היא מדברת לא יכולה להיות חד צדדית. מדובר בשלם שגדול מסכום חלקיו.
בסי-פארט ישנו רגע בו הופס מדברת על הבדידות שבחיים, אבל הבחור אליו היא ממענת את השיר, הופך אותם לשווים, כלומר שלא רק שהאהבה אינה הסיבה לקושי בחיים, כברוב הבלדות, אלא היא הסיבה לקיומם.
