Israel’s Hatikvah is one of the world’s most beautiful national anthems, one of the few in a minor key – a song that yearns for the “land of zion”. It isn’t the most sensible sample for a rap record, but it shouldnt stop a producer. Tupac admited that this song’s sample was stolen from Nas' “If I Ruled the World” as a revenge for Nas allegedly “stealing” the sample of “All Eyez on Me” on “Street Dreams”, when he said “I’m ‘bout to take this nigga’s (Nas) beat, and whoop his ass with his own motherfucking beat” before performing Troublesome '96 on the House of Blues.

התקווה הוא ההמנון הלאומי של מדינת היהודים, היינו מדינת ישראל. משום מה, החל מקום המדינה ועד היום, מקובל לשיר את ההמנון בסגנון מסויים, שהזמר או הזמרת ששרים את ההמנון בארועים רשמיים, כמו טקס יום הזכרון, יהיה חסר מבטא מזרחי וסלסול בשירה. מאפיין זה הנו המשך לכך שהמוזיקה המזרחית בפרט וכל מאפיין של התרבות היהודית - מזרחית בכלל מודר מהתקשורת המיינסטרימית בישראל, זאת למרות שמוזיקה מזרחית מושמעת בארועים משפחתיים רבים וברחוב הישראלי. צנזור המוזיקה המזרחית והתרבות המזרחית הגיעה לרמה כזו, שאוהבי הז'אנר נאלצו לפתוח תחנות רדיו פירטיות לפני המצאת האינטרנט כי תחנות הרדיו סרבו להשמיע את המוזיקה האהובה ולהוסיף אותה לפלייליסט.
